The research team's mission is to develop and update biologically and economically efficient and ethically sound production strategies for pigs and poultry. Scientifically proven solutions for improving production efficiency, enhancing nutrient control in farms and new protein sources in feeds are actively searched. Also possibilities to affect meat quality during the animal life time are future research topics. In-depth understanding on chemical and biological processes is needed. Research is mainly conducted nationally but the group is also involved in international project consortiums. Senior Scientist will integrate to the Meat and non-food Animal Production group and therefore strengthen the academic pig and poultry production research in Finland.
Senior Scientist will coordinate the Luke pig (and poultry) research especially in feeds and nutrition research. This includes strong responsibilities in designing and coordinating projects and finding funding for the projects. The position also includes coordinators responsibilities in supervising the animal trials and reporting the research in national and international forums. Tasks often require multidisciplinary approach with other key experts inside/outside Luke.
Work will be carried out at Luke Jokioinen or Luke Helsinki area and utilizes Lukes facilities for intensive animal studies in Jokioinen and facilities in partner farms. Work will be conducted in close cooperation with the feed and meat companies operating in Finland and with national and international research organizations.
From the applicant we expect Ph.D. degree in animal sciences, preferably in pig and/or poultry nutrition.
In addition, we expect the applicant to have a broad understanding in pig and/or poultry production in general. Documented scientific merits in pig production and additional expertise area are appreciated. Research will emphasize topics such as feed processing, feed nutritive value for animals, nutrient digestibility and passage through the digestive tract and their relation to for example animal health and welfare in pigs and poultry.
The candidate should be fluent in written and spoken communication with researchers, research technical staff, farmers and stakeholders in international and national scientific joint projects and customer projects. An open-minded approach to research topics is an advantage.

The position is at complexity level 10-11 in Lukes salary system. Therefore, the position-specific salary component is EUR 3 928.75-4 412.00 per month. In addition to the position-specific salary component, a salary component based on personal performance will be paid. It can be at most 50 % of the position-specific salary component.
